Thursday Talks: Carla Falcon ’13

An alumnus of Rutgers School of Dental Medicine (RSDM), Carla Falcon of the Class of 2013 returned to school as a faculty member. She’s an associate professor of endodontics. Learn more about her time in RSDM.

Tell us a bit about yourself and what you do at RSDM.

I am an endodontist, which is a specialist in diagnosing and treating pain related to the dental pulp (blood and nerve tissue within the tooth) and peri-radicular tissues (the tissues surrounding the tooth root). At RSDM, I am the program director for pre-doctoral endodontics. I am attending in the graduate and predoctoral endodontics clinics. I see my own patients in RSDM’s faculty practice. And I write and publish papers related to endodontics.

How long have you been here, and why did you decide to come to RSDM?

My time at RSDM started as a dental student when it was New Jersey Dental School, and I’ve come full circle now as faculty. I came to RSDM because I wanted a strong clinical program where I would have ample opportunity to learn and grow.

What do you like the most about RSDM?

At RSDM, I feel I'm able to make an impact on multiple levels: with patients, students, residents, my specialty, and the dental profession as a whole.

What do you enjoy doing outside the school?

Outside of school, I am involved with nationally organized dentistry, serving on several committees with the American Association of Endodontists and as a trustee of the Foundation for Endodontics.
