Newark at Large

RSDM is in Newark’s University Heights section, the city’s cultural center. In recent years, Newark has received national attention for its exciting arts scene, citywide development efforts, and burgeoning nightlife, including top-notch restaurants that offer a wide spectrum of cuisines. It is home to the Newark Museum of Art, the New Jersey Performing Arts Center (NJPAC), and is the hometown of the NJ Devils hockey team. Newark is less than 15 miles from the attractions of New York City and is located near major transportation hubs, such as Newark Penn Station and Newark Liberty International Airport. It is about an hour’s drive from the Jersey Shore.

Housing

The Office of Housing & Residence Life provides an on-campus living environment that is safe, secure, well-maintained, and which promotes personal growth, social development, the celebration of individual differences, and academic excellence. At 180 West Market Street, there is a range of apartment types available for students to choose from, including private studio and one-bedroom apartments, as well as shared two and three-bedroom apartments. All are within walking distance of RSDM. There are also several options for off-campus living in Newark that are popular with students.
